Unruffle ("we", "our", "the app") is a mediation app that helps two people privately talk through a disagreement with the help of an AI mediator. It has two modes: Sort It Out, a guided mediation flow, and Fight It Out, an AI-judged debate. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled.
Your data is stored on Google Firebase (Firestore), hosted in the asia-south1 (Mumbai) region, and processed by Google Cloud Functions in the same region.
Your private words stay yours. Each person's own statement, follow-up answers, and the mediator's private notes about them are stored so that only that person can read them — enforced directly by our database security rules, not just by app design. The other person in the conversation cannot access your private statement, your follow-up answers, or the mediator's private notes about you, at any point, even though you're both part of the same conversation. (Messages sent in the shared conversation, and the final scorecard once generated, are visible to both people — see below.)
How our systems use this to power the mediator. To make the mediator work — understanding both sides, writing the welcome message, guiding the conversation, and generating your scorecard — Unruffle's own backend systems do read both people's private statements and notes together. This is different from the two people in a conversation reading each other's private data, which never happens. Our backend processing is what allows the mediator to be genuinely fair to both sides; it is not visible to, or accessible by, the other person in your conversation.
Unruffle also offers a second, separate mode called Fight It Out, for lighthearted debates rather than real conflicts. In this mode, we collect: the debate topic, messages exchanged between participants, and AI-generated content including live commentary, odds, and a final verdict. Unlike Sort It Out, Fight It Out does not use private sealed statements — messages are visible to both participants from the start. The same data protections described above apply: our backend systems process this content to power the AI referee, and it is not shared beyond what's needed to run the conversation.
Coins are an in-app usage ledger for summoning the AI on demand. At this time coins cannot be purchased with real money — they are provided for free to help you try the app.
How long we keep your data, and deletion. Conversations, statements, and scorecards are kept so you can return to them later, including after a scorecard has been generated. If you'd like your account deleted, you can do this yourself from the Profile screen. When you do: your account, your private statements, and your identifying details are removed. If you were part of a conversation with someone else, your name is replaced with "Deleted user" in that shared conversation and in any scorecard already generated from it — the conversation itself and the other person's own data are not deleted, so their record of your time together isn't erased. In rare cases, text you wrote as part of an AI-generated scorecard summary may still contain identifying detail that isn't automatically redacted after deletion.
